Cameron Smith: The Master of Hilton Head Island?
By: Cameron Berthold 04/13/2022
Hilton Head, South Carolina – The stage is set for the 54th RBC Heritage, with a number of elite players facing the nearly 7,200 yard Harbour Town Golf links. This tournament follows arguably the most electric week in professional golf, where the most skilled players in the world had a chance to show off (or struggle) at Augusta National. In the case of Masters Champion Scottie Scheffler, show off doesn’t even begin to do it justice.
The field this week is loaded, with three of the top ten finishers at the Masters heading to SC. Collin Morikawa, who finished 5th last week and T7 at the 2021 RBC Heritage, will be on the course and in the hunt for the win. Fan favorite Justin Thomas, who finished T8 in the Masters, will also be competing this year after not participating in the tournament in 2021. However, my pick for the week is a danger to any golf course he steps on, especially Harbour Town Golf Links.
Cameron Smith, identified by his marvelous mullet, has been a threat to everyone in the field this season. With two wins on the year and a T3 finish at the Masters, anything can happen this week. Cam has also shown he is comfortable and confident playing Harbour Town, firing off a first round 62 and finishing T9 in the tournament last year. After having a glimpse at winning the Masters, there is not a doubt in my mind that the Australian is going to be playing with a little extra grit. Cam Smith is set to tee off at 1:07 pm EST. on Thursday. This is not one you’re going to want to miss!
